About

Nygel Anderson is a drummer, educator, and musician born and raised in Tallahassee, FL. Growing up, Nygel was constantly around musical environments. With many contributions from family, Nygel picked up many elements that are essential for many musicians. Nygel's father, Leon Anderson, who is the director of jazz studies at Florida State University, and a fellow drummer as well, has given Nygel lots of insight on his musical career, instilled many life skills, and has also shown him a "few" things on the drum set.

As a child, Nygel was always banging on something. Whether it be a pot, pan, drum set, or even using pencils to beat on the desk as school. At the young age of 11, Nygel attended Augusta RAA Middle School, a performing arts and magnet middle school in Tallahassee, FL.

In 2014, Nygel decided to attend Lincoln High School. Under the direction of Daniel Farr, Nygel found his footing in jazz band, marching band, and concert band working on very difficult pieces that challenged him. In 2017, Nygel was selected for the 2017 Tri-State Jazz Band which is comprised of the best jazz students from Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.

Nygel is currently enrolled at Florida State University as a BM Jazz Drum Set Performance Major. During his time as a gigging musician, Nygel has gotten to perform with many great musicians such as: Wendell Brunious, Scotty Barnhart, Rodney Jordan, Sherman Irby, and Nat Adderly Jr.
